  • Normal text AAA7.0:1Fail
  • Large text AA3.0:1Pass

Large text means 24px and up, or 18.66px and up when bold. Everything smaller has to clear the normal-text bar.

Frequently asked questions

Which contrast formula do you use?

The WCAG 2.x formula: each sRGB channel is linearized, weighted into a relative luminance value, and the two luminances become a ratio between 1:1 and 21:1.

What counts as large text?

24px and up, or 18.66px and up when bold. Large text passes AA at 3:1 and AAA at 4.5:1, while normal text needs 4.5:1 for AA and 7:1 for AAA.

Which color formats can I paste in?

Hex (#abc or #aabbcc), rgb() and hsl(). The color swatch next to each field opens your system color picker.

How is the suggested color chosen?

It keeps the hue and saturation of your text color and moves only the lightness, in both directions, until the pair clears 4.5:1. That way the suggestion still reads as the same color.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The math runs in your browser and no color values leave the page.
